The Temple of the Sacred Tooth
The Temple of the Tooth or the "Dalada Maligawa" is the most sacred Buddhist pilgrimage sites in the world. Here, one of the Lord Buddhas' sacred tooth relics (left canine) is kept at royal palace complex in Kandy .The temple was built in the 17th century near the shore of Kandy lake.
Sigiriya
Being a hedonistic place, a rock fortress and a sacred complex, Sigiriya (Lions' rock) is one of the islands' most incredible archaeological sites, located north of Dambulla, 169 Km from Colombo.In 1982 the ancient city of Sigiriya was listed as a World Heritage site. The palace complex of Sigiriya was built by King Kassapa (AD 478 – 497).
Kandy City
Kandy or "Maha Nuwara" (the Great City) is the last capital of the Sinhala Monarchy. Due to its elevation (500 m ASL), Kandy has an average temperature of 26°C . It is 116 km from Colombo.Kandy City is an International religious centre and since 1988 it's on the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List.
Peradeniya Royal Botanical Garden
Peradeniya is the Royal Botanical Gardens which was the pleasure garden of the last King of Kandy. The Peradeniya Garden is easily one of the best of its kind in the world. The many beautiful avenues will lead one to sections which provide a burst of tropical colour.
Horton Plains National Park
The Horton Plains are one of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful tourist attractions. This national park known to many as the Horton Plains National Park or Maha Eliya National Park is found in the central highlands at an altitude of 2,000 metres.
Kandy Perahera
There are three major styles of Sri Lankan classical dances as the Kandyan dances from the Hill Country, known as Uda Rata Natum, the low country dances , known as Pahatha Rata Natum and Sabaragamuwa dances in Sabaragamuwa province.
Handicrafts of Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is well-known for its’ skillfully made traditional handicrafts in all over the world. Making of handicraft is an old profession. Owing to the great chronicle, when the prince Vijaya came to Sri Lanka in the 6th century BC, he met Kuveni spinning cotton. Sri Lankans are making handicrafts not only as a profession but as a pleasure making way for themselves.
Waterfalls
The mountains of Sri Lanka are flourished with waterfalls of dazzling beauty. Reaching to more than hundred, many of them are hidden away in woodlands. Sri Lanka has recorded a highest number of water falls than other countries. These sparkling water bodies are formed by rivers which are fed by two half yearly monsoons
Knuckles Range nature reserve
The Knuckles Mountain Range lies in north-east of the Kandy city. The range is characterized by its' well known landscapes frequently covered by clouds. In addition to its' aesthetic value the range is having a great tropical biodiversity subjecting to scientists' interest.
